Parent Role
  • Parental involvement is key to the Suzuki method of teaching.
  • The ‘designated Suzuki' parent attends lessons and group classes with their child and takes notes in order to provide the appropriate daily assistance at home.
  • The New Parent Information also outlines the general responsibilities of parents in the program, such as acquiring an appropriately sized instrument, the CD and the music book.
  • For the first year, parents of beginners attend Parent Education classes during their children's Music and Movement classes.
  • We recommend that you read at least one of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki's books (see Resources) to increase your understanding of this philosophy of education.
  • ESM parents also play a critical role in helping our program and special events run smoothly. We rely on parent volunteers to help with such jobs as refreshments for our concerts and recitals, managing the inventory of used instruments for sale by ESSM families, set up and clean up at events, tasks at the workshop, etc., (see Parent Volunteer form).
Parents interested in ESM's programme and the Suzuki method are invited to observe any of our activities with their children (see Registration).
