Joining a Zoom Meeting for Lessons and Group Classes

  1. IMPORTANT: Check that you have the latest version of Zoom installed.
  2. Unpack your instrument and set up everything you'll need for class:
    • Rosin your bow.
    • Cellists: Set up your chair and endpin stopper.
    • Tune your instrument well using a tuner such as this chromatic tuner or this (free) tuner app.
    • Get your lesson notebook out and find all required writing utensils.
    • Set up your music stand and music books, if applicable.
  3. Position yourself appropriately in front of your device's webcam.
    • Music stands should be placed to the left of your device.
    • Violinists & violists: Upper half of body in frame, including left hand and also extended bow arm.
    • Cellists: From head to below cello bridge in frame, including extended bow arm.
Note that cellists may need to speak louder than usual, as their device will be a distance away.
External speakers may be particularly helpful.
  4. Find the teacher's Zoom Meeting ID number and password. These will have been emailed to you.
  5. Approx 5-10 minutes before your lesson/class is scheduled to begin, join the Zoom meeting:
    • Open the Zoom software on your device.
    • Type in this info as prompted:
      • Teacher's Meeting ID
      • Student's first name (using their actual name will greatly assist the teacher!)
