Faculty: Margot Jewell
ESM Co-Founder and Artistic Advisor
For over 40 years Margot has enjoyed working with young people and their families, first at the Hamilton Suzuki School where she taught violin and was also the director and more recently at Etobicoke Suzuki Music which she co-founded in 1982.
She has a Bachelor of Music Education from McMaster University and her ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She obtained her Suzuki teacher training in Canada, the United States, France and Japan.
Margot has performed in groups such as the National Youth Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic, Symphony Niagara, Te Deum Orchestra, and the Aradia Ensemble, as well as many freelance groups.
An adjudicator at music festivals and a RCM examiner, Margot has enjoyed working with children from Whitehorse, Yukon, to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. She is presently the Specialist String Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music. She was a reviewer for the 2013 Violin RCM syllabus. In the summers Margot enjoys teaching both students and teachers at Suzuki Summer Institutes.
She has served on the Board and done committee work for the Suzuki Association of Ontario (SAO) and the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Her articles have been published in the SAO newsletter and American Suzuki Journal.
Margot is mother to two young adults who were Suzuki students.
